In my Zwitter I have realised I have a 1950 engine , which is obviously wrong .
I am therefore not going to need it , hence my question .
I have had a little look around and they seem to be silly money .
What should I be looking for if I sell ? realistically speaking - Im not looking to take anyones pants down .

The engine is complete with tinware - condition is unknown , not even tried to turn it ..
Any advise would be great

Depends how correct it is and the condition. Post some pics :thumbup:

Depends very much on how 'correct' it is.

If it has the right:
Manifold
Carb
Distributor
Regulator
cylinders
tinware
pulleys
carb support bracket (and I mean the correct one)
Dynamo

ie, all the rare, hard to find stuff, then it will be worth more. lets see some pics and any chance of an engine number??

You might be better off keeping your engine and restoring it. At least you'll have an appreciating asset whilst looking for a '52/'53 25hp as you dive it.

Thanks for the photos!

The distributor is wrong and the air cleaner wrong, as above, I'd be more tempted to perhaps restore this and 'correct' it for your year rather than try to find the right one which will almost certainly have wrong bits on it again.

Can anyone else check, but I found that number as July 1949....

Am I missing something here or isn't 1-0451104 a July 1952 engine number?
I've checked on the samba and the historic VW club site too!

Wouldn't July '49 would be: 1-0145XXXXXX (IE with a 1 before the 4) ?

The engine is closer to the zwitter than you can hope to find.
I whould restore it and use it. To find a correct zwitter engine with the bits will take you an arm and a leg....and never find the correct month for your car as it is only 6 months built. Roll it I whould say.:thumbup:

Thanks for all the input .

I cant remember where we checked and got it as 50 engine - have done numbers again and you are right - JUNE 52

Not correct but very close - Any one tell me what is different on this to a "correct" zwitter one .

I am aware the pre heater tubes are different and have a spare manifold to make up a correct looking one should I decide to keep it .
