everyone lowers their beetle (well, most!)
but not many return them back to stock!!

which i am doing with my 66

after driving it about slammed, it looks awesome, but increases wear everywhere and causes
unnecessary damage!! and as the car is quite original, i want it to last another 40 odd years too.

when i first bought it, it was so nice and smooth to drive, now i just hate it!!!

any ideas what radial tyre size they would have come with?

would 165 f560's fit on the front?

anyone got a really good ball joint steering box?
as mine has a tight spot....

Good on you for thinking about raising it back up Tom!

165 F560's on an oval scrape the inner wheel arches on full lock but not unacceptably so. Not sure whether you'll fare better with yours!

It wouldn´t have come with radial tyres.
You´ll be needing 5.50 crossply tyres.
Radials look wrong. Makes the car look ten years newer.

thanks!
getting wheels blasted, and finding out they are too pitted is proving £££

would not rather run crossply's!!

what year did they come with radials? late 60's?

Some of them still had crossplies into the Seventies.
Don´t really understand the problem with crossplies. No more dangerous than having no seatbelts or indicators, or any of the other little bonus features that we all enjoy.
Is the car used daily?

One step at a time, lets not put the guy off before he's raised it up again

A stock height bug is so much more enjoyable to drive, no more worrying about scraping noises going over speed bumps, or onto car-park ramps etc.

 Good news about you fixing the suspension, good for you !

There's nothing like driving a bug on crossplys, but if you really don't fancy it then 155 wide radials are closer to stock size. The firestones are good.

Post some pics before and after

got stock beam blasted today, only a 2 pin holes on the bottom of the shock towers, which isn't too bad.

got wheels back from blasting too, and they are pretty bad! but hopefully can be saved

i might go for 5.5's on the rear, from karmann konnection, which i had on it years ago!

raised rear end back to stock a few days ago, narrowed beam took off last night and sold!

wanted to paint the beam tonight, but paint shop was shut! 😞 so will have to do it tomorrow
and hopefully refit tomorrow night!

Is it really that difficult to find some wide five wheels these days? 😞

i remember throwing away a pair of 66 only steels years ago, as no one wanted them!!

along with a set of 5.5 wide 14" aussie steels aswell!

I rather like that.
I was expecting something really stupidly low/narrow.
Now i must take the Pre67 walk of shame for admitting that no doubt....
