hi, everyone

Please help me out:
1. is there any possible that 1959 (with semaphores) has ragtop on it?
2. if there is then, do i have to look up chassis number to confirm that?

thanks in advance

Its perfectly normal. Ragtops were an option.

JD, thanks for your info.
i'm quite new in vw world so that would help me on some decision maker.

i found out when we working on my 1959 restoration that previous owner had filled up the top so i wanted to assure befoe puching that out.

thanks again JD

i'm now starting my 59 restoration only to have another inquiry on it; are front blinkers really on the fender (originally for this model' year)?

If it has semaphores, it should not have indicators on the front wings. US spec August 1957 onward beetles without semaphores do have there indicators at the top of the wings. So it's wrong, but not very wrong (if you are afraid of driving a car with just semaphores since other participant s to the modern traffic are not familiar with them, it's the best alternative).

the idea was to make it back to original look much as possible.
driving with only semaphores is fine with me actually (until it isn't fine 🙂.

JD / vwmadeinireland, thanks for helping me out.

ps.the resotration would take about 2 1/2 months at most. i will post some pix after it done (or even before that).

it seems like my inqury never end, doesn't it?

the newest question is that my 1959 needs 2-fold or 3 fold ragtop? (different source said different thing and i'm confused now).
vwmadeinireland

Pretty sure that should be 2-fold. I think pre August 1955 is 3-fold.

it's nice to hear that since right now, only i can found is 2 fold ragtop.
i just have to negotiate the price of that piece now.

thanks vwmadeinireland, part of my restore has your info in it.

My partner has a factory Swedish '59 ragtop in original paint, scruffy but stock and 100% original & completely intact ( bar its lowered on Sprintstars ( was done years ago before he bought it!) I dont have a pic to hand but will try to find and post one sometime.
So if you need any info just post and I can take specific pics for you or email me :D

What colour is your car? look in the footwell behind the carpet if its been painted?
'58's & '59's had some great 1 + 2 yr only colours!

I dont know where you are but we have lots of spare sunroof parts between us too if you need parts.

And,

1. Yes, '59 sunroof cars are not so common :D

2. Made in Ireland is completely correct, 2 fold. Any beetle genuine 'Golde' folding sunroof parts from '56- on will fit the hole in your roof.

3. Your best source for a new sunroof cover in UK is VWHeritage :

Heritage

Or call JULIAN at Karmann Konnection
KK

They both can supply the most correct reproduction type available.

mrsherbie,
absolutely thrill with info you posted.
my '59 needs the whole set of 2-fold ragtop [/u](if it really is) and that would include canvas + all hardware pieces.
've gone through "vwheritage" and "karmannkonnection", look like you guys can really help me on that.
difficulty is that i live in bangkok (but anyway, that really shouldn't be too big of a deal if all is right).
i'll post up my vw images soon as i am back in town next week, may be you can give me some confirm and more thought on it.

til next week 🙂

Wow!
Maybe a better bet for you is to call or order direct from Wolfsburg West then:

Wolfsburg West

They are absolutely excellent with worldwide shipping! Tried & tested.

Do you not have any good parts suppliers in Thailand?

Hi,
Looks like a very nice car you have there! 😎

Someone has made a good job of filling in the rag top hole. :?

Why would they do that?

Couldn't they find the parts to restore it or did they prefer to have a solid roof? :?

info i got from experts here was that there's always a big pouring here in bkk' rainny season and the ragtop roof was unable to drain properly so that's why. and that's all about guessing.
anyway, i intend to put it back on when get chance. (sound like a long period of time when talking about it 😞 parts now getting crazy prize-wise).
thanks for viewing, six-o-one
