How many holes now under the firewall of a Hebmuller?
I say 1 other people say 2! :?
Why two? Explain me why so I might drill a second hole
(when acceptable) in my Heb too!!!

Both of mine have 2 as well. I believe all of them have 2.

Steve Woods old Heb # 595 has 2,and this car is VERY ORIGINAL including all rubber and screws, carpet, etc.

Thanks!
It is number #458
It was for 56 years in Switzerland, now in Belgium!
It is a very solid project, believe me!

Hello vintagevw,
very nice car! It has the very rare decklid with the big dimples. This one was just used on some cars.
Question: is the cowl panel (panel with the air slots) pressed in one piece (includig the fin in the center) or is it welded together from three parts (the slotted panel, the fin and the waterchannel holding the rubber sealing)?
I am looking for the date, when Hebmueller started to use the one piece design. My car (291, 02 December 49) has still the assembled cowl.
See attached fotos.

Picture above shows late cowl.

Picture below the early, assembled cowl of 291 (dusty as I found it...).
I forgot: it has the two holes

I wish there were more  but until now I count six of them.

On 5 cars I am sure because I have seen them in the flesh.
The sixth car is only a rumour but the one that told me about it is pretty convinced about it...
For the record....
nr 56, 458, 461, 623 and South African Heb are confirmed...
On the sixth I have no records , nrs ...only a old pict...

I still must investigate that one...
Ohh and the weirdest thing is that in these 5 there are 2 sisters...

Hey
Another weird thing...
Heb 458 have wide beans in the engine lid....?
Heb 461 have small beans in the engine lid...?

Both were sold new in Swiss , and both left Swiss to come to belgium to find a new home.

however ; one will be restored  and the other will stay like it is...in a storage of a museum  .

Question:
Has anybody knowledge of Hebs in between 309 and 418? If you know one of these cars, please let me know about the make of the cowl.

For the dimples (beans):
they were used to avoid wrinkling by "sucking up" metal in the area under the nose tip. The big ones were used very shortly (only for one pressing lot?). As material (sheet metal) was very rare in 49, also these lids were used for production cars.

Hello vintagevw,
is it possible to get the shape and position of the dimples? I just made a little die to press in the small dimples in my repro lids (see picture).
Could you make a "plaster" of this section with the big dimples for me? Then I could use it for reengineering.
Greetings
