Apart from the legal requirements (bulbs, triangle, luminous jackets), here's a list of parts and tools we took with the oval on our 1500 mile trip to Hessisch last summer:

150 piece socket set (including sockets and metric spanners from 6mm to 22mm).
Screwdriver set (x-head and flat blade).
Large socket for wheel hubs.
Breaker bar.
Large and small adjustable spanners.
Mole grips.
Various pliers.
Water pump pliers.
Small 'electrical' screwdriver.
DVM.
Copper and hide hammer (large).
Gas soldering iron.
Hydraulic jack and assorted wooden blocks.

Duck tape.
Insulating tape.
Araldite.
Assorted wire.
Fuel hose & assorted clips.
Carburettor.
Fuel pump (I think).
Wheel bearings.
Regulator.
009 distributor.
Plugs (2 sets), points, caps, rotor arm, HT leads.
Clutch cable.
Accelerator cable.
Fan belts.
Electric tyre pump.
Cans of tyre weld.
Odd nuts, bolts and washers.
Bulb set.
Latex gloves.
Engine gasket set.
Exhaust gaskets.
Rocker cover.
Bale arm.
5l can of petrol.

Before the trip we did a full service as well as any of those 'minor' problems we'd been aware of but had kept putting off.

Blimey, a comprehensive list! Cheers!

So far the master plan is to head over to Bad Camberg for the weekend and then just head west for a 3 weeks until we hit the coast of Brittany. Already getting excited!

Don't forget the nut or wing nut on the end of the clutch cable! A new cable is no good without it:?

Or... just take one of everything that's going to break and forget the unnecessary stuff!

Luckily, we didn't need any of it but we weren't prepared to let a simple thing mean going home early on the back of a recovery truck!

I read recently some good advice (possibly on here?), that at the very least you should try to carry RHD-specific spares if you are going to a LHD country. The speedo cable is one of those items but I'm sure we could have a good debate on whether that constitutes a breakdown rather than an inconvenience! :d Are throttle and clutch cables are LHD/RHD specific?

Hmmm! You should be especially careful with that cardboard sunroof.

The master plan is to take 'it' off the road sometime in the next few months, and begin some restoration work. Overall it is very good underneath, it just wants a few repairs re-doing and most likely a few small other bits of work. Im convinced it has had a new RHS front quarter panel at some point, but it is a oval era panel through and through so I think it must have been done '55 - '60, as in about 1960 when it changed owners EVERYTHING is documented.

We plan to do most of it ourselves, but will send it away for the sunroof graft, final prep and paint.

Also, I am nagging to get a nice 30 horse rebuilt (we have two a month off the car), but I cant see this happening this side of the Olympics.
