depends it they had a problem or hated eachother before of after joining.

There's a big difference between facebook and a forum, when you post on facebook you can set it up so that only friends see what you post - you're never going to get into an argument with someone you don't know (unless you add loads of friends you don't know...)
As I said previously, first name basis is fine for public posts if you are concerned about privacy, with only moderators knowing your full name. The aim is to make things a little more friendly.
