For me, the always increasing prices are killing the hobby - and I know a few others who have said the same thing. It's transferred from fun into serious investment, there's very few people who are able to lay down £40k on a hobby - something that will be used maybe a dozen days a year. Phils Van is lovely and I don't doubt one of the best, he's also a great guy so I hope he gets what he's asking.

Personally, each high ££ or $$ car I see gets me more and more disinterested. It used to be good fun getting cars off farms or out of lockups for £50 each and having fun with them. Those days are well and truly gone, maybe I just need a break from it all for a while...

Rob, I still reckon there are bargains out there to be had. You shouldn't lose faith in that- you just need to keep looking 🙂

Well hopefully I won't need to look... Anyway, if there are bargains still out there, you'll always be there first! 😎

I don't think anything VW and old is going to be exactly cheap these days.
Not really a cheap hobby any more, but I guess that's the same with any classic cars worth having!

Perhaps someone should start a 'what a bargain' thread instead?

I could tell Rob all about my 500 quid and a case of beer Hebmüller, but I don´t want to depress him.

Sure some of these cars seem over priced, but it´s not impossible to think we´ll be looking back one day at these "cheap bargains", and wishing we´d bought more of them.

No I wasn't suggesting an "average Joe"...collector's usually have the wherewithall...just sell one or two of their other cars to fund it if needs be.
