No exhaust cutouts, "H" pressing

August '55 - '60.

'60 seems to be an odd year, not sure about the month of the transition between this and the later 60s valence.

Twin tailipe cut outs, "H" pressing

UserPostedImage

'60 - '64 (T handle era)

Lost the "H" pressing, but retains the 50s style latch spot welded on. Twin tail pipe cutouts

'64 - August '66. Push button latch era

Almost identical o the eary 60s valence as above, but lost the spot welded on latch. This was replace by a screw on latch and there are two small captive nuts behind this area. Again, twin tail pipes.

This photo shows the join between the valence and 1/4 panel. The panel from factory was laid over the 1/4 panel, a small bead of weld was used along the top edge (circled in red) and this was then ground down.

Also, two small spot welds were used along the vertical section also attaching this to the 1/4 panel. (circled in yellow)

This will be the same for all years but this photo was taken from a rear clip cut from a '66 model car.

This photo shows a crank start hole in the rear valence of a split era Beetle. ( a Heb actually)

I dont know the exact dates of when the standard model gained a starter motor.

(these are both two different cars, both Hebs however)
