Julian,

https://www.transportcafe.co.uk/raf_photo_reconnaissance_unit_field_photographic.html
This web page covers the 50`s and 60`s with the RAF´s 8th Mobile Field Photographic Section in Germany.
You will notice they had oval Beetles painted Deep Bronze Green in service together with other German made vehicles.

Regards,
Hanno

I can't really tell yet.. not driven it very far or hard.. but it starts and stops and steers..

feels a bit weird, sitting so low compared to the windscreen.. might have to get a cushion 😉

it now has an MOT, but I'm trying to get it re-registered which will take a week or two.

Then I can do the miles and see how it goes.

Ace!

Got any build-up photos? I'd like to see how the lift kit was done, especially.

Just plodded through the thread. Great stuff. It was the steering column I was wondering about, mostly. Wasn't that bad a shell really, was it?

I've talked (yeah, yeah) about making something like this for ages, but was planning on using 181 running gear somewhere along the line. Perhaps that '60 sunroof of mine won't get the 100 point stock treatment after all. I'll get my coat, here's the membership card and blazer badge back. I tried. Really, I did...

Julian,

It really looks the part. Although not "stock" as is the norm on this forum, I personally feel it nicely portrays the VW Beetle in military service, a much neglected subject.

although no real decent pics of the lift kit..

I presume you need the body lift kit to get the clearance for those 7.00-15 tyres?

The huge flat spot has been sorted after 3 carbs and 2 Distributors.

The speedo sceized .. so its been apart and seems to work again.. i'm not too worried as its not the right one.. as that packed up too!

Slowly getting there.
