Hi everyone

New boy on the block here, just want to say hello and ask for what will probably be the first of many questions

A few weeks ago spotted a post on VZi about an early beetle found in a scrapyard in Nottingham. Turned out to be about 4 miles from where i live. A couple of days later popped up to find it was still there had a quick look round and decided i had to try and save it. :d

Allthough it didn't have the notice of destruction on it there is no paperwork. When i got it home, cleared it out to find a front bumper with a registration and an old tax disc to match, have spoken to the DVLA and they agreed that all details match.
However have now submitted the relevant forms to get the V5 and sent in my £25 but they have queried the chassis number.

Got this from under the back seat reads 3 494 5XX, however when the DVLA queried i confirmed VIN chassis number as 2 821 5XX which they confirmed as correct. I have also applied for the birth certificate now

How will this affect the V5 and me owining and restoring the bug?

Am i correct in (from Samba.com) that;

2 821 5XX dates January 1960 and 3 494 5XX dates as October 1960?

Various other bits of research and digging have me guessing to date it late 59 early 60; 3 fingers on front valance, ceramic green in colour, semaphores.

Unfortunately there are lots of bits missing but i am aiming for a stock resto

Will keep you posted

Thanks in advance

kind regards

Mick

Is the tag with all the numbers on still in th espare wheel well?
I´d probably just run with whatever the DVLA agree to.

Good save BTW.

And welcome.

Definately stock have done the lowered on polished porsche wheels before. Have discussed it with Paul at the beetle & bus depot, who will help with the repairs etc that it would be a crime not to.

Now scouring the world wide web for period parts :d Have a speedo but thats dated 1965 so too young!!

Cheers for the welcome

The number on the VIN in the wheel well matches with what the DVLA say, they also said it was registered Mar/Apr 1960?

The number on the tunnel is the 3 494 5XX number?
