hi! i live in california, i recently bought a 1963 beetle... it ran fine but two days after i got it i had to leave it sittting for 30 days. when i started it up again it started rough but it started. now when i drive it, it starts fine... but, when i come to a stop it slowely dies and i have to restart it. any ideas?

How warm is it over there? as could be carb icing. which means that you have to unblock your pre heater tube. Run the enigine and let it warm up, carefully touch the pipe on the left side as it will get very hot, if it's not there is no air flow through it. hence icing. Also has a tendency to kill No 2 piston as it disrupts the air flow.

Either that timing check that is spot on.

Also may be blocked jet in the carb, but seeing that the other two are easier to sort out i would suggest these before

I would be erringmore ont he electricals for this one, something breaking down like condensor or points
