Hi

I have just bought a 1956 oval, however the previous owner had it far too low to cope with the london speed bumps and I need to raise it abit. I have taken the back apart once all ready and have found out what to do however my query is that I couldnt disengage the outer spline. I presume the 56 still has inner and outer spline???

If so any tips (do's/dont's)about getting it free?

Also and last question how many splines are on the inner and outer on a 56??

help greatly appreciated.

Hi

As far as I know the inner end of the torsion bar has 40 splines and the outer 44.
Here's a link to doing the job. It sounds like the spring plate has rusted on to the torsion bar. Probably just needs lots of penetrating oil and a few blows with a soft-faced hammer. Hope this helps and good luck!.

cheers for the info and the article.

I have just come to the same conclusion myself. Interestingly (or not) the article says 1 inner spline approx 9 deg will give you a 1-2 inch difference in ride height. When I did that it seemded to adjust he height alot more (almost back to stock) maybe I just need to let it settle after being on hte jacks although I cant see it settling by that much.

At least I now know hwat I am doing the next spare weekend!!!
