Scenario: '47 is ready to be driven to Bad Camberg. The long-running issue of tempremental starting was solved and fixed a few weeks ago, much to my relief. For the first time in my ownership. the car starts/runs/drives like a dream.
However, last week, it started spluttering under load, it turned out to be the coil was on its way out, so a temporary new Bosch coil has been fitted whilst I wait for a 'new' Star coil to arrive. All is well again.
Tonight at 5pm, I start the car. The generator light stays on. Run some tests on the charging system, it turns out to be a faulty generator (and not the regulator as hoped!). Have a look in the shed. I have one Split Beetle 'RED' generator in unknown condition and one other 6v generator in unknown condition. Time to phone a friend. Spoke to Dave Ball as we'd recently done a 12v conversion on his '56 Cabrio. The old 6v generator from his engine was ok so I went and picked that up- cheers Dave! 10:15pm tonight with Dave's generator fitted, we have a fully working car again. Phew! Let's hope it will get Dave and I to Camberg and back!
I seem to have had so many disheartening low points with this car of late. Now all the problems are sorted, maybe it's time to sell and move on to something else?
