My 58's hub caps should have black 'VW' in the centers.
Anyone know the best way to do this, I'm not sure what method will give the best results :?
Masking will / would be to say the least 'tricky', could brush paint, also thought about over spraying the whole badge and then using a thinners soaked cloth, wipe away paint as neccesary......its going to get emotional I feel it in my bones.
Could always leave them all chrome I suppose

would be greatfull for any advice

Enamel and a paintbrush and a steady hand I would say.

Cheers JD, Thats what I figured on doing,
just thought I'd ask incase there was a particularly effective technique, the type you normaly find out about after the event.

I have painted some in the past by hand too and they looked fine ( I have a steady hand) but I am going to try this method next time as someone suggested this to me also and I have 3 in original paint (copper red) so am just painting 2 to match those. I think the trick will be to spray very lightly! We have some originals with black vw logos here and the paint is thin, I am not sure whether it is age or wear or they were like this originally?
So long as you have enough paint if it does'nt work you can just keep trying! I am not quite ready to do mine yet.

I did the same job recently on a set of 4 for my Ghia, I tried the spray paint on and wipe off with a rag method, but it was a disaster  .
Ended up stripping all the paint off and starting again..............
For me, best results were obtained with a tiny natural bristle artists paint brush and some gloss enamel; the results are pretty darned good even though I do say so myself.
I'm naturally not artistic at all but it was a rather therapeutic job  .

Just normal paint.

Last time I did it, I sprayed the entire center of the cap. No masking. Let it dry for 10 minutes or so, then come back with an rag wrapped around a block of wood and a little acetone. Everything wipes off but the paint inside the emblem and it turns out great!

 ET

ps: clean logo inside first with acetone and allow to dry first!!!
