Finally - we have a excellent source to reproduce the curved style windsheild for the Beeskow model Coupe and Cabriolet. Thank you Siegbert! We have an excellent original windshield (Thank you Christian!) which will be copied by this German craftsman. Prices will gretaly depend on the number of orders, in the range of EUR 450 each (order of 15 - price TO BE CONFIRMED). This is an absolute transparent non profit exercise by The Rometsch Beeskow Registry.

So - we need the list of customers to be as long as possible - SIGN UP now! Send an email to me: "[email protected]" to get on the list. If you're missing one - sign up. If you have one - would you leave home with your car without the spare in your bedroom closet?

Let's go... deliveries at the end of summer. Shipping not included. Windshields can be stored for free and picked up at Hessisch Oldendorf next year.

I want one! Sign me up for one!!!

It may be easier if everyone who wants one signs up here online... then Oystein can put the order together and advise a deadline for wiring the money.

What do you think?

I also think all the California people who want one of these windshields should get together for shipment all at once... in a fully enclosed and double crated box inside a shipping container...

who is shipping containers this way anymore... anyone? Bob at BBT? Lenny?

Godd idea times two Eric... Just post here and also let us do a joint shipment to the US. We have confirmed 9 windshields as of now - let us make it twice that. All is going very well on the process itself now.

Great picture Eric!

The original Beeskow windshield is delivered to the maker and he is contemplating on the cost, time and production process. We had to await the completion of the Lawrence-items first. These are now finished and delivered.

In a few weeks we expect exact costs and will start taking deposits. We currently have firm orders for 9 windshields. Surprisingly few - I would expect anybody with a Beeskow, would want one for a spare. We have not got orders from many of the US-based cars ... Ray, Malamut, Mr Kee, Harris, etc, etc ... Would you dare to leave home without it?

In other words - we are on track for the HO2009-meet delivery date. Stay tuned.

Finally - something to report:
In relation to the Bremen auto show last week, I went to Hessisch to pick up the windshield that never made it to the glass maker on its own... Thanks for loaning this to the Beeskow-community the Grundmanns!

UserPostedImage

This is an original SEKURIT-marked windshield original to the Beeskow and after picking it up myself, I brought it to the specialist glass maker in Bielefeld. It is now in his secure hands. This guy has made low volume windshields for Ferraris and Lamborghinis and also supplies everything that Stoddard sells for 356s. Good stuff in other words.

The glass maker with the recently finished windhsield for the Lawrence model:

The rack of all types 356 windhsields:

So - the status is now as follows:
- Next week I get a firm quotation of a) tool cost and b) piece cost (Estimates: a) 1500EUR, b) 250EUR)
- Initial once in a lifetime order of 15 windhsields will be finished mid-May 2009
- This is certified, high quality laminated "proper" glass
- 5.7 mm thick
- Finished edges, ready to innstall
- We plan for delivery of everyhting direct via mail or at Hessisch meet (shipping not included)

BUT - one issue: Markings...
- Me being in Norway outside the EU I prefer NO markings at all and I get away with it no problem
- The supplier and German customers say that there is NO way to get "MOT" or "TUV"-appooval without the "E"-marking even on an oldtimer like this
- One issue: How is this in the USA? Do you north americans prefer no marking, E-marking or do you need "DOT"-markings??
- We are trying to sort a compromise in the form of only the "E"-marking and the number....but NO brand name. Below is a picture of the standard markings which are also on all Stoddard-sold 356 windows.

SO: Please re-confirm your orders....and this is FINALL CALL to sign up for this once in alifetime chance. And please also comment on the marking-question.

Some more info:
Windshield rubber and alu trim:
The windshield rubber seems to be common with another German automobile and a good source for an available repro of this has been found. I have 3 variants with me to test on my car before confirming it. The same source also sells new alu-moulding that goes into the rubber, this is exact the profile Rometsch used. It has to be bent to shape. We could place a common order for rubber and alu also and have this available with the windshields in mid May. Again - send me a note at "[email protected]" to confirm.

As of today, 9 windshields are confirmed on order. I am surprised that not more owners have stepped up for either glass, rubber or alu. This is new and high quality. Even if you already have the old - this repro-run will be a good chance to have back up. Let me know - and let other owners know.

Bjoern - could you let Dr Koch know about this?
Eric - more American owners chiming in? Mr Kee?

I would vote for no marking on the windshield. There is no "authority" here in the USA... no TUV. Nobody cares if an old car doesn't have a certain marking on it's glass. This is only an issue for NEW cars here.

My only thought on the low volume of windshield orders... is that not everyone is watching this Pre67 thread on the subject. Your recent regular email may reach more people.

Same goes for rubber and windshield trim.
