I've been unsuccessful in finding Cadmium Red for the wheels on my Ruby Red '63 too. In the end I think I'm going to go for Rover Damask Red. It has to be a red which is darker than Ruby otherwise it all looks a bit too much the same.
Garnet Red beetles are supposed to have Ruby Red on the wheels so I've also been wondering about going for the reverse with Garnet Red on the Ruby Red car.

As said my ca ris not in its original Ruby Re (in a similar Rover colour) but as the wheels will want a bit of rust prevention soon, I may as well try to get that right!

Also im going to try to paint the "VW" on my hubcaps soon..

Hello all!:D

I have had a couple of very exiting deliveries in the past few days....

A matching pair of original euro spec indicators! Many thanks to Yan Rami of the The heb registry! They are rare SWF ones which I wasnt expecting!

Look at the thickness of the chrome! Just shows that the old'uns are the best'uns!;) The chrome is near perfect, my dad described them as "near nos"

The original screws that are normally all rounded off are mint!

Got:

Engine bay seal
plugs
dizzy cap
rotor arm
fan belt

'50 Karmann wrote:

Well! It was to cold but we soldiered on! Got the case split to find that the main shaft needs a new bearing and there is a large tooth missing from on of the cogwheels at the diff end! The box is pretty good other than that!

It is also less than a month off the age of the car so it is worth persevering with it!

It will however probably need to go to a specialist to get new shims when we chnage the diff wheel! (not sure of technical terms! )

The plan is to get her up and driving in a few weeks to go to Hayden at Panelkraft for a few bits or rear end work, after a slight shunt in Cornwall! But this is looking less and less likely eith this box any time soon!

There is also some where on 1st gear where they have obviously crunched into 1st whilst still moving! This is very slight though so we plan to leave this!

All that is left after that is the 30 horse engine!

Thanks! Have heard good things about him but we're pretty sure we can get it done to a good standard! Apart from the shimming, suppose that'll have to be done by a specialist!

Having only before now taken apart non split case boxes, I alwasy wondered why they changed it and having seen inside one I can not figure it out! They are so much simpler than later ones! 😳

I'm yet to hear anyone say anything bad about him!

Thing is, it's going to cost something in the region of £550 to get this box reconditioned professionally and we want to avoid that kind of expenditure.

I've been offered a '56 box locally that is believed to be working. The current plan is buy that and strip/check it with a view to making one good one out of the two. This could turn into an expensive hobby! :d

Hi,
I have a 62 Ruby Red one, and my wheels were painted in ruby red too. After a few weeks of search I got the right colors from Glasurit. Cadmium Red and Stone beige. Looks great now.
Glasurit now also cares about vintage colors, and they could provide these colors.
Unfortunately I can't tell an address where to buy, because I got my colors around 3 corners. A friend knows someone who has good relations to Glasurit...
Do you have paintshops that work with Glasurit colors? Search for that and ask there.

Has anyone painted the hubcap logos?
I used the stickers. They were too small and its really tricky to apply them

Not perfect but I have only done one so I suppose the next three will get better!

I have heard that the stickers can be more trouble than they are worth!
