Many apologies for having to ask, but what is the name of the panel that forms the front wall of the battery compartment? The bit behind your legs if you're sitting on the back seat?

My "new" beetle does not have this part - am I right to presume they all should have it?

Apologies again for the stupid question!

Earlier cars that only have heater outlets in the front do not have the panel fitted you are talking about.
Not sure exact date the rear heater outlets were introduced, around 1960 I think.
My 1958 only has front heating, and has no panels fitted under the back seat.
What year is your car?

From memory I Think 1960 was the first year to have them but they were plain, with no holes in them.

Yes I'm sure too that it's from August 1959 for the 1960 model year, but only for Deluxe, not the Standard model. My April 1960 Standard doesn't have these panels. They seem to be referred to as 'heel boards' in some places and 'kick boards' in others.

Okay - thanks, guys!

So it's okay that you can see the battery, then? Or should it be hidden somehow?

Thanks again!

He's a '53 with a 6 volt battery.

(Apologies again - everyone has to start somewhere, right?)

Definitely no kick panels for a '53

Well... I could, but I think you all know him already...

Thanks for everyone's help - whilst I may be clueless at the moment, I am eager to learn and very keen to make as few mistakes as possible in keeping him how he should be. It would be a dereliction of my duty to do otherwise.

Look out for more numpty questions heading your way soon!

Thanks, VW Stan - that looks like him, except that one's not 56 years old!

Good to know I'm not missing a bit!
