Hmm - I always thought they were black??
Is frequently found with a glass of wine in one hand and a vintage vw part in the other

They changed from black to silver sometime after the Oval model,in the sixties i think.
Prof Rich will know for sure.

As Robb's very correct restoration shows,they did at some point go over to Silver.And it was before '67.  rag3.jpg You have insufficient rights to see the content.

i always find it strange that people think they were black.

They werent! as George says. thanks for the kind words :smile:

I think they changed to silver in 1960. :thumbup:

So I am right in thinking they were silver... sometimes...

Atleast I'm not going mad.. but sadly I think I'm becoming an old buffer! ;)

My guess is before 1960... but I dont know when 😃
