I know exactly what you mean mate. Been thinking of selling mine recently too. But then I get back in it and think, no!

the VW shows do get boring year in year out, so what I do is attend just some regular classic car shows as well. In fact I do better with the 67 in the concourse at these then at vw shows.......less biased in my opinion

youll never find another white 67 as clean as yours!

I haven't seen another Lotus White 67 for a long time, never mind in reasonable condition, but I'm thinking I want out of the scene anyway...

I would keep it ,i went nearly ten years without them but things change and old interests always come back.Luckily i never sold them .Just hide it away somwhere and revisit it in a few years .i gaurantee you will appreciate it again one day .They don't eat or drink anything while they are not being used so unless you are desperate for cash I say look at it as an investment for now.

I agree with Mike, unless you are desperate for the cash it is worth keeping. You say you would sell for 5.5k but if you then put that money in an ISA what would it be worth in five years ?

I don't drive my beetle or Ghia at all, but I still like having them. A good 'stock' car will always appreciate in the long (as long as you don't spend a fortune on them:wink: )

I agree with what everyone else has posted on this topic, and would like to drop in my (late, I know!) thoughts.

I was out of the scene for over ten years, only returning to old VW's in 2011. What is noticeable to me is the hike in prices for parts and cars. There is a distinct danger of it becoming a rich man's hobby. It's also easier to become habitual in our feelings towards events, "it's the beginning of May, so it must be Stanford Hall". This is true across any interest, not just the VW hobby. That said, it must be difficult for event organisers to continually bring new ideas to meetings, but we should keep supporting them. I take part in generic classic car events, but as I'm in Scotland, there is only one VW show each year, and local classic meetings give me the chance to take the car out, and to make others aware that there is a thriving VW scene.

However on the plus side it is much easier to buy good quality parts that it was even ten years ago. I've used Wolfparts, Klassic Fab panels, panels by Steve Hook and Wolfsburg West in the restoration of my Oval, and I think the car will be better for it. Of course it would have been nice to use NOS parts, but they are seriously expensive, and not as easy to come by. At least we have dedicated specialist parts available should we decide to use them.

I would urge you to keep your cars, put them away by all means if you feel you'd like a break. I sold my cars, and had to start over again when I got back into it. It wasn't altogether easy to get the car I wanted, but eventually I did. You guys have spent the time, money and effort in getting your cars, keep them.

I have ordered a pair of mudflaps to fit with my lad - maybe see if that increases warm and fuzzy feelings about the car..

Chaps!

Take a step back and think about what you are saying. Your '67s are far too nice to part with.

Mine has been in storage for over two years due to a nightmare (continuing) building project on the house. Luckily I was able to retrieve it at the weekend, it now it resides in my new "toy cupboard"

That's a very attractive car. Also the colour looks the same as on Old Blue my '68, assuming my computer screen is set correct of course.

Sorry to hear that you're thinking of leaving the scene. I can sort of understand why though. I've decided to cut back on the show scene next year (except perhaps Stanford Hall) and just enjoy driving my Beetle.

I can't understand the thinking behind some folk; who'd turn a nice little stocker into a shitt3r like that. :thumbdn:

Good luck, are you writing a resto thread on it somewhere?

from what I understand, a young lad invested money into fitting a big motor & box, wheels, air suspension etc and wanted his money back when he advertised it for sale. He couldn't sell it, so broke it, ended up with the shell and pan being sold separately on ebay earlier in year and the guy i bought it off, put it back on the road.

no thread as yet, it wont be to concourse standard, as I bought the car for my other half to drive during the summer. 😎
