Hello

I got his single port engine today...

UserPostedImage

The code starts with either an O (Letter) or a 0 (number)

If its a number... then what is the engine from?

And if its an O (letter) then it should be a type 3 1500cc engine... if so, shouldnt the code be on the top and not the front?

Anyone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

Not seen an O before but if it was a 1500 type 3 engine it would not have the dipstick as a type 1 engine as they had a flange mounted tube coming from the lower part of the crankcase .The tube was for filling and checking the oil.I am taking an educated guess that your engine is a 61/62 1200 34 hp .The first 34hp 1200s did not have separate cam bearings and the holes for the cylinders were smaller , making them fairly unique but hard to rebuild as barrels and pistons are tricky to find.
