Can anyone tell me the correct configuration that I should have on my rear brakes. I appear to have split bug backing plates with the 4 mounting holes for wheel cylinders and 2 springs as the hard wear. Should I have 2 mounting holes for wheel cylinder and a 3 spring configuration ??

Hi Pipvan,

I've just been rebuilding the brakes on my '57 Oval, so I have some first hand experience! You should have the three spring configuration, one spring across the shoes beside the wheel cylinder, and the other two going from the top and bottom shoe respectively the little bracket where the star adjusters are located.

"Every little bit helps!"

Gavin.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this thread.

I've just bought a job lot of parts and in there are some backing plates with 4 holes for the slaves and others with 2 holes.

I won't be needing them so need to know what years they are for so I can advertise them correctly. thanks.
