I voted for 100% stock, pre-67. That's what this site is (and always has been) about.

I love later stock cars, I've owned loads of nice ones but I think this site should stay pre-67 only.

I can understand Rob's point of view. You put a lot of time and effort over a number of years into developing and building a website, all on a voluntary basis, and it never seems to grow in popularity when compared to other VW sites.

However, as most have already pointed out, being a stock, vintage site, the target audience is never going to be as big as the other sites. The decision is whether we want quality or quantity of threads. Personally, I'd prefer the 'quality' aspect of things, and as such voted to keep it stock.

As George has said, this is what makes this site stand out from the crowd. Otherwise you'll have people posting up pictures of their VW tattoos 😳

Maybe something to discuss next weekend over a few beers :d

I have voted that stock post 67 would be ok, even though my personal preference is for the older cars. I do have some reservations about the change though as I think that this site should be targetting just the purists.

One point of clarification that I would like to make is that I am voting for post 67 aircooled cars only, The watercooled cars should have no place in this forum (even though I do like them.)

I have been reading comments on this topic with interest. The more I consider things I wish I had voted differently.

If there is any chance of changing my vote, I would like it changed to period correct Pre 67 cars.

Busiest thread in a while! lol

Only reason I don't see this site getting any busier is to a new comer it appears very hostile and elitist. Nothing to do with the content!

It specialises in the rarer car Si...it's bound to seem elitist to someone who doesn't own one.

If they do own one all they have to do to join the clique is to show a genuine interest and talk sense...not too hard.

The easiest way to find out why people no longer post is to ask them. I'm an administrator on a mountain biking website, and have the facility to 'e-mail all members'. Why not do this asking why they don't post anymore or as much. Admittedly you may only get a small percentage that reply, but at least it should give you a starting point on why the post count is not as high as you'd like.

It would be helpful too if people would explain their statements. If someone thinks the site is 'elitist', then what gives that impression ? This is not meant as a criticism of anyone's post, just may help the site break down the 'barriers' that people think exist.
I don't see the forum being 'elitist' myself, except where people try and post threads on topics other than pre 67 cars, then they are 'put in their place'.

As I said earlier, it's a target audience out there for stock pre 67 cars, just look at the membership of the Historic Club, not as high as other clubs because the target audience is lower. Why not advertise this site more at shows such as Stanford Hall and Lavenham ?

I for one would like to see more traffic on this site, but don't want to compromise the quality of the topics to get that traffic.

And if u need proof

Keep it as it is. If you include post 67 Vws it will soon attract the kind of muppets you get on VZi and as George stated it will just become another sheep in the flock.

Whilst I appreciate and respect the totally stock stance of the site, I think period modifications should be acceptable, if it was my forum it would be called pre 57 and I would ban anyone for life caught using 'txt spk' in their posts :d

I'd say GKL7's hair was too long and I've never seen him in a tie or wearing trousers other than jeans, so you couldn't be further from the truth really...

txt speak is a personal irritation of many of the 'older' generation, myself included. There are plenty of free spell checkers you can use so there's really no excuse for it. Even when I send texts on my mobile, I make sure it's spelt correctly and has punctuation... But that's an age thing I know.

I don't remember Ovaltine typing in text speak, and he posted from the same IP as you - and hasn't logged in since you signup up... So if you are him then it's probably time to stop...

OK, so the poll is over, feedback has been received both here and on the facebook page - so here's what I've decided.

1) I'm not going to create a post '67 section. The name of the site is pre67vw and was started in order to cater to the 6v sloping headlight models, I just don't see how it can be pre67vw but also include super beetles and bay window buses.

2) I'm not going to create a modified section, feedback from most people was to keep it stock. However... my personal view is that it should be acceptable to post anything about a pre '67 car if the topic is relevant - ie, if the owner has a lowered car but wants to know what is correct for some other aspect of it, then the forum should aim to be as helpful as possible. If someone wants to know how to do a roof chop on their split, then this is still not the right place to ask.

3) Anything period correct is OK. The site has always had a little place for Okrasa engines and other old-speed equipment etc. Or coachbuilt cars made back in the day. If it happened before 1967 then it's fine by me to post it on here.

Thanks for all the input, I'm going to lock the thread now because I don't see any value in further comments. One thing I would say is that the success/failure of the forum is not down to me, it's down to all of you that post. Know body knows how long pre67vw will be around, it's not owned by some big publishing company that will just keep it running while people come and go - if interest in the forum dies out then I'll remove it. So if you want it to stay around then it's up to you to get involved and keep it busy.

Thanks!
